Developmentally disabled people are cared for with AI solutions… Focus H&S and SK Telecom join hands

December 28, 2023

[Money Today Reporter Hwang Guk-sang] Focus H&S, a company specializing in AI-based physical security and control solutions, has joined hands with SK Telecom to launch a care solution for the developmentally disabled. It aims to expand its business area, which was previously focused on AI CCTV-based physical security and control, to the AI life care market.

Focus H&S announced on the 28th that it has commercialized the ‘AI Developmental Disability Care Solution’ developed with SK Telecom. Following the pilot operation of the AI-based behavioral analysis system at the Jongno/Dobong Developmental Disability Lifelong Education Center in Seoul last month, the system was recently supplied to the Daejeon Developmental Disability Support Center.

This system uses CCTV (closed-circuit television) with vision AI technology to analyze and record the challenging behaviors of people with developmental disabilities, and helps specialists and behavioral experts provide solutions based on the data. Focus H&S developed its own ‘One-Stop AI Care Integrated Control System’ by combining SK Telecom’s AI converter (AI box) with built-in vision AI algorithm, video storage device, video control system, and dedicated dashboard.

The challenging behavior of a developmentally disabled person refers to behavior that harms oneself or others or dangerous behavior such as destroying objects. People with developmental disabilities who have difficulty communicating express their emotions such as dissatisfaction through challenging behavior in stressful situations. The number of people with developmental disabilities among registered disabled people is approximately 250,000 (9.4%), and the proportion of developmental disabilities among minors under the age of 19 is 67.8%.

This system can recognize and analyze the occurrence time and frequency of nine challenging behaviors (kicking, punching, etc.) using AI. The data automatically converted into text is reported and then transferred to the corrective treatment stage by experts, which is expected to greatly contribute to improving the efficiency of challenging behavior intervention services.

Kim Dae-jung, CEO of Focus H&S, said, “Our company’s vision is to create a world where people who love technology come together to create products with soul and a safe and happy world,” adding, “We will do our best to improve every aspect of our society with the AI technology capabilities and know-how that our company has accumulated so far.”
